As you may know, there are many yungerleit living in Eretz Yisroel who live month-to-month. When the Yom Tov season comes around there is more difficulty than usual making ends meet. Besides for all the regular expenses like rent, childcare and groceries, Yom Tov has the added expenses of more seudos (food, papergoods, etc.), more mitzvos (sukkah, daled minim, matzah, wine,Pesach keilim etc.), and clothing for the family. Additionally, many of their wives get paid hourly and work fewer hours over Tishrei and Nissan, thereby lowering their income for those months.
Keren Ezras Yom Tov was established to help ease their burden. We at KEYT always say “A thousand shekel may not be enough to make Yom Tov, but it IS enough to make the difference in their Yom Tov.”
The money is distributed to the families in a very discreet manner – many of them don’t even know where the money is coming from.
